Position : Legal Officer

Location: W.E. COX GROUP (MALAYSIA) SDN BHD, No. 45-2, Jalan Tiara 2C/KU1, Bandar Baru Klang, 41150 Klang, Selangor, Malaysia

Renumeration: RM2,500 – RM3,000 (negotiable)

About the Role

As a Legal Officer, you will play a critical role in the successful resolution of high-value marine and non-marine recovery cases. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, international setting, where your expertise will be essential in managing and negotiating complex subrogation claims.

Key responsibilities include:

• Oversee and manage a portfolio of high-value marine and non-marine insurance subrogation recovery cases
• Work hand-in-hand with Insurers and Surveyors / Loss Adjusters to collate sufficient documents / info / evidence to establish liability and to hold the negligent third party liable
• Work closely with our Global Offices in relation to case management
• Engage in strategic negotiation with liable third party to achieve and secure a favorable amicable settlement for our clients
• Provide opinions and views on cases requiring litigation, collaborating with legal teams to drive legal action when necessary.
• Work hand-in-hand with lawyers for litigation cases

Requirements

We’re looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have:

• A Degree in Law (or equivalent) from a reputable institution.
• A strong understanding of Contract Law.
• Familiarity with International Maritime Law and International Trade Law is advantageous, but not compulsory.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) with strong drafting abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
• Proactive attitude and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
• A mature and responsible personality with a strong sense of initiative.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
